Dr. Borgarelli will provide a review of the DELAY study. He will discuss the prognostic significance of cardiac remodeling in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and how cardiac biomarkers can be used in clinical trials.

Dr. Michele Borgarelli

Michele Borgarelli graduated from the Veterinary School of Torino in 1989 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Since 1990, he has developed Cardiology, abdominal ultrasound, and Internal Medicine training in Italy, Europe, and the USA. From 1995 to 2007, he was temporary Professor and then Assistant Professor (Internal Medicine and Cardiology) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Torino. From 2007 to 2012, he was Associate Professor of Cardiology at Kansas State University. From 2012 to 2017, he was Associate Professor of Cardiology at Virginia Tech. Since 2017, he has been a Professor of Cardiology at Virginia Tech.

He became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 1999. Dr. Borgarelli earned in 2005 his PhD in clinical sciences with a thesis on “Mitral Valve Disease in Dogs”. He has been a member of the board of the European Society of Veterinary Cardiology (ESVC) since 1991. From 2004 until 2007, he was President of the Italian Society of Veterinary Cardiology. From 2009 to 2011, he was President of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
